Biography
Dr. Tom R. Karl has extensive experience in
virtually all areas of pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, having
worked in neonatal cardiac surgery, cardiopulmonary
transplantation, circulatory support and hypoplastic left heart
management.
Karl trained in heart surgery at Yale New Haven
Hospital and the Hospital for Sick Children in London. He was a
staff surgeon at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne,
Australia, from 1989 to 1999, and directed the cardiac surgical
service there for the final six years. Prior to joining UCSF in
November 2001, he was senior cardiac surgeon and the Tabas
Professor of Surgery at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
